DON BOOSTRUM'S OLD FASHIONED
Peel the skin off one orange with potato peeler, this gets just the zest and leaves the white pulp on the orange.
Now take the orange peels and in a bowl mash sugar into the peels for about 15 minutes, (don't cry, this is a labor of love), you are in effect making candied orange peels, the more you candy the peels, the better the old fashioned will turn out and the less sugar you will add to the final result.
Now take crushed ice, fill a shaker with the ice, add some VO Canadian Whiskey, the orange peel, a dash of maraschino cherry juice and some dashes of Angostura Bitters and 1/2 tsp of sugar and shake well. Pour into small whiskey glasses and garnish with a wedge of orange and a maraschino cherry. Now you are back in Bambito with Helen and Don playing cards again.
